Determined

I am determining just what it is that I want but it is an unconscious process. Facts are irrelevant. Unpinnings, discardings, unidentifiable shapes in black plastic bags. I cast things without feeling for hooks or paper boats. This puzzle has no edges.

If the puzzle has no edges, it may well be a sphere.

What signifies a sphere?

A sphere signifies that there are no edges?
Bit of a circular argument that one, no pun intended.
All puzzles have edges.

Then again: I'm a literal fool.

But a sphere is a one sided, three dimensional shape. If the puzzle is a sphere, you are best off looking for patterns, colours or themes rather than edges.
Return to your metaphor with this and you might find answers...
Find answers, you will. Case of Yodaitis I have.
Oh, created a useful word - pedivore. This is someone who constantly says the wrong thing at the wrong time, ie has their foot in their mouth to the point where they are eating feet.

Does no one care about the thing about fishing or setting things off to sail on their own? Why focus on the puzzle? Just wondering.

Ah-ha! The puzzle may be a buoy - they're spherical, they float, and I'm sure you could fish off one.
That's it Dale, you need to find a buoy!
